to be or not to be...
Healthy
Shakespeare
wrote these words in Hamlet, and it’s one of the best known
quotes from Shakespeare. Hamlet asked his friend Horatio about
the meaning of life, when he thought about his father’s death
and his mother’s quick marriage to his uncle and all the other
problems this young man had.
But also, it’s one of the phrases that are quoted outside its
frame of reference very often. And now I’m doing it again (well,
kind of).
To
be or not to be HEALTHY, that is the question.
I believe most of us want to be healthy. As a schoolboy, I
wanted to be sick, only to miss school. Now as an adult, life is
way too exiting and full of challenges, I don’t want to miss a
thing.
How about yourself? Why do you want to be healthy? Because
there’s so much to do, so much to see, so much to enjoy, so much
to contribute? Or because there’s so much you have to do, but
don’t really care to?
Fill in the open part after this sentence: I absolutely must be
healthy to…
Just to give a couple of examples. I absolutely must be healthy
to enjoy my family’s company. I absolutely must be healthy to
enrich other’s lives with my work. I absolutely must be healthy
to climb Kilimanjaro, etc.
Hamlet and Horatio talked about the meaning of life. I found
that since I combined my health with the things that are
important to me, my point of view changed dramatically. Being
healthy went from a ‘nice to have’, to a ‘must have’.
Without great health, almost everything I want to do, become a
lot more difficult. Building a great family, enjoying the
outdoors, growing my business and other important things are so
much easier while feeling great.
Maybe it’s time to do some soul searching. What are the
important things in your life? Is it worth your time and effort
to change your point of view on health? Is health a ‘nice to
have’ or a ‘must have’ for you?
