your brain might be the secret agent that sabotages your health
You
know how people tend to have difficulty to stay healthy and full
of energy. The most common New Year’s resolution is to lose
weight. But according to research on the brain, these
resolutions last only till the middle of January. Then people
fall back into old habits.
It’s very frustrating, and this person beats himself up about his lack of willpower and determination. But soon, these guilty feelings are overridden by some ‘justifications’ like “I’m just too busy to keep up with a health program”.
The amazing fact about this is that it’s a very general trait amongst people who want to change important things. According to John Assaraf, (featured in The Secret) we are conditioned to act in a specific way. That is the way our brains are wired. Our subconscious brain only gives us the information which it’s conditioned to recognize as important. Along with that, our subconsciousness is also conditioned to move us back into our comfort zone.
Our brain setup comes from different places. It’s a mixture of our genetics and the input we receive from outside. Then there are the thoughts we think ourselves.
Good news is that we’re in control of most of these factors. We can choose the thoughts we think on a conscious and subconscious level. We can control the information coming from the outside.
Achieve your Ideal
Health.
You need to focus your attention on what you want. Do that
consistently and you’ll almost automatically start to act in a
way to bring you that ideal health.
Here are some tips. Write in positive language what it is you want. The popular word is affirmations. Instead of saying ‘I want to lose weight’, rather say ‘I’m weighing my ideal weight, which is 85kg’ or ‘I’m in perfect shape’. Read this type of affirmations daily. In about 30 to 40 days you’ll start to believe it and act from this new belief.
Enhance it with a dream vision board. What does healthiness means to you? Is it having the energy to play everyday with your kids? Then put up a picture of you playing with your kids. Does it mean better productivity at work? Then put up a page from your dairy with all your to-do’s marked off. Does it mean improving your sports performance? Put up a medal that you’ve won at one of the competitions you’ve competed in.
Surround yourself with health conscious people. Join a health forum on the internet, or attend wellness seminars to meet like minded people.
Supporting people, who want to reach their health related goals, is what I do for a living. And I’ve seen how people changed the wiring of their brains to achieve goals they wished for.
Now that you know one of the main reasons why you sabotage your health goals, you could change it. Change the way you think on a subconscious level. Follow these tips, get support and you’ll see how your health constantly changes for the better.
