Wellness in the Workplace
As
a manager, you’re most of the time pressed for deadlines. When a
project isn’t done by then, your superiors are on your case. And
I know that is not a nice place to be. They don’t accept ‘please
be patient’ for an answer, they don’t want to hear about reasons
why it’s not finished. They want it done and you’re responsible
to do it.
One of my best friends is a senior manager in a large company.
He’s like that. Do it or die! No, I’m making it worse than it
is. He is a reasonable guy. Give him reasons while you’re busy
with the project, don’t make excuses afterwards.
To say to your boss that two of your group were sick, booked off
by the doctor, won’t go down too well. To try and motivate that
terrible-looking-cold-victim to pick up his pace might have the
same results as asking a four year old to clean his room.
The trend is among businesses and institutions to encourage
employees to improve their lifestyle. I never worked for a
company that do teambuilding events from time to time, and in a
way I feel deprived. A friend of mine owns a business that does
corporate teambuilding, and I see how exiting it can be. I hear
how it improves the morale and productivity in the workplace.
Most medical aids reward their members to stay healthy. If
someone could prevent a disease, then the fund saves on the
potential claim. Businesses start to move in the same direction.
There is a new and growing sector in the health and wellness
industry that focus on corporate wellness. I Googled it, and I
was surprised. Lost and lots of companies realised the
importance of their employee’s wellbeing. At the workplace, for
each working day someone loses, time, money and productivity is
lost.
I first heard about this concept from an American ezine, but I
didn’t realise that it would soon catch on in South Africa.
Today there are companies that have their own in-house gyms,
some send their employees on wellness courses and so on. When I
first heard about it, it was about a company that held a weight
loss competition for its employees. The most recent wellness
activity I came across was horse riding. The options on how to
improve your workforce’s productivity through wellness is almost
endless.
That’s why I introduce the corporate wellness seminar to you.
Instead of sending your employees to the regular seminars, I
come to your workplace and address the group. It could be in you
boardroom, conference room or auditorium. So instead of them
leaving for a whole day, they will be out of their offices for
roughly two hours.
Since this is a new addition to my business, there are no formal
charges for this service (except for travelling cost from my
office, at AA tariffs.) This will only be so for limited period
of time. Later on, I will remove this paragraph from this page.
The content of this seminar is slightly different that the
evening seminars. Apart from the normal advice on how to live a
healthy lifestyle, I’ll touch a little on the connection between
health and productivity. When they walk out of this seminar,
they’ll have knowledge and tools on how to improve their own
health and how this will improve their productivity. For your
business it means greater profits and for them more satisfaction
and possibly faster promotions. This could result in better
equipped employees and a higher level of motivation towards
their careers. In the end, when each individual improves his own
lifestyle, your business benefits from employing more balanced
people.
Send me an email to arrange such a seminar at your workplace.
When you’re a health conscious person yourself, this is an ideal
option. Use this website to show the decision makers the
benefits of corporate wellness. In the end the company invest in
the wellbeing of its employees, but each individual benefits
from it. And obviously, you’re one of the individuals who
benefit from this seminar. This is a mutual beneficial
situation. Your colleagues benefit, your business benefits and
you benefit from it.
