do you have a crystal ball?
We’re at the end of 2009.
At the end of 1999 most of the world looked with anxiety to the
new millennium. There was the possibility of the Y2K bug,
derailing the electronic infrastructure, there was doomsayers
who predicted the end of the world to name a few of the concerns
people had. And now, ten years later, we’re still here, and none
of those worries come true.
When we look into 2010, we’re just having a new year ahead of
us, as at every time in the past. Although there is no mass
hysteria about this coming year, we all have our personal
concerns and expectations.
Some people just let things happen, other struggle against the
things that happen. And other makes things happen.
Almost every one of these people makes New Year’s resolutions.
And how long do you guess do most people stick to their
resolutions? Until the 21st of January, that is three weeks.
Now we’ll discuss ways to improve your odds, to move you into
the category of the few who make things happen.
The first thing that I keep in mind, is that you won’t always
reach every goal you’ve set. But that shouldn’t keep you from
setting those goals in the first place.
When you want to set a goal and reach it, why not use all the
available strategies to reach it. That is to have the mindset
and practical tools to be successful.
Here are some tips that need no explanation:
Write it down.
Read it a lot.
Talk about it.
Ask someone close to you to keep you accountable.
Ask someone professional to assist you in reaching those goals.
Follow a goal achievement programme.
Something very powerful when choosing your goals, is to know why
you want to achieve that goal. For example, it’s not purely the
weight you want to lose, but the self confidence you’ll feel in
that smaller dress, or that you want to inspire your hugely
overweight dad to lose the weight and improve his health.
Include these inner reasons also in the above tips, that are to
write it down and talk about it, etc.
Sometimes people also don’t exactly know what types of goals the
want, but they do have general goals. Here are a few examples of
health related goals people have:
Lose weight.
Be energetic.
Improve your immune system.
Improve your digestive system.
Assist your heart to function optimally.
Slow down the aging process.
Build muscle and gain weight.
Improve your sporting performance.
Find an activity that you like.
To be successful is up to you. I’ll close with a quote from Jim
Rohn: “Success isn’t something you pursue; it is something you
attract by the person you become.”
What wait for you in the future, is not always depending
circumstances. In most cases you’re in control. You don’t need a
crystal ball, what you need is clear goals and the persistence
to follow through. Make it happen.
