People who take regular holidays are healthier.

We know the effect stress has on our health. Currently, I’m on holiday. I’m telling this to you, because this is the first holiday I take in two and a half years. And I felt the effects clearly.

Although I’m not sick, I’m mentally in a loop: work, eat, sleep.

Recently I read that people who regularly go on holiday are healthier, has better relationships at home and at work, and may even live longer.

So since I’m on holiday, I’m not going to spend much time on this email. But still I want to give you some practical advice.

Holidays are to most of us an expensive activity. I’m going to list the options we have to make holidays more affordable:

The most expensive way to go on holiday (not based on research, but on my own opinion) is to go to a luxurious resort. It doesn’t matter if it’s locally or international, because travelling expenses and accommodation expenses are separate.

If you’d like to book at a resort, but make it affordable, camping is the best option. There you have to invest in camping equipment. If you want good quality equipment, this also becomes somewhat expensive. But in the long run, it’s worthwhile.

You and friends or family could buy your own holiday home. This is a good option from a financial perspective. Not only do you have a place to go on holiday to, but you can even earn an income from renting it out. This brings the cost of going on holiday down dramatically, and you have a sound investment. Camping equipment has almost no resale value (except for a caravan), a holiday home does have a resell value. The biggest down side of this, is that you always have to go to the same place. The other challenge is to get financing for such a home.

Timeshare is a great option, which is way less expensive than a holiday home. Same applies here that you have to go to the same resort year after year. Even worse, you have to go the same time each year. On the positive, timeshare also has a resell value.

I’m using a similar model than timeshare, with a few differences. There are various ‘holiday points’ companies out there. I bought shares in one of these companies, and for my shares I receive the opportunity to book at any of the resorts, any time of the year, subject to availability. So I get to go on holiday anywhere in the country, based on the share value I have in the company.

This is the most affordable way to go on holiday, with the most convenient advantages. I even book a holiday and rent it out. This way I receive an income from this investment. I can even resell it.

So there you go. I bought shares in such a company and I’m very happy with this investment. If you also want to do it, you can contact me. (When I refer some one to also buy shares in the company I have, they pay me a commission. This is another way I receive an income from my holiday investment.)

Well, go on holiday, it a necessity, not a luxury.
