There is that pizza,
dripping with sauce and cheese. Here are you feeling as if your
living room is the jail and the free world is on the other side
of your TV screen. On your lap is the remote control to press
the pause button, as the beautiful girl put a piece of that
pizza in her mouth. Also on your lap is the bowl of rabbit food
– lettuce, carrots and raw broccoli with a pinch of salt.
This was one of the favourite diets of the eighties and early
nineties. Some people still say that this is a good way to lose
weight. But the frustration is to most people unbearable. The
constant hunger feeling, the tastelessness, the cravings, the
feeling that there is so much you miss out on, makes the
frustration no better.
Fortunately we now know that food isn’t bad for your weight. And
even ‘too much’ food is in some cases not a problem. When you
make some small changes to what you eat and how you eat it,
controlling your weight becomes easy. Actually it’s very simple.
Eating is not your enemy in weight loss, but your friend.
We must face it that without food we’ll die. We need it for
basic survival. And we need it for optimal health. Being healthy
means that our bodies function at its best, and that we are able
to burn the energy we consume through our food.
To some people it’s only a dream to eat as much as they need and
still control their weight. To you it can be a reality.
Stay with the basics.
Here are some broad guidelines, the basics on how to eat to be
healthy and in shape.
Increase your nutritional intake and be balanced. We all know
that refined and processed food is high in calories and low in
nutrition. If there are any vitamins in a hamburger, would it be
sufficient for your body’s needs? Nope, there’s no way it’ll be
sufficient. Cravings develop when you have some kind of
nutritional deficiency.
The best place to find unadulterated nutrition is in fresh foods
and free range/ wild caught meats. Fruit vegetables, nuts, fish,
chicken, beef, and so forth are the best place to find higher
nutrition and lower calories. A good idea is to add something
fresh every day to your meals. All your body's nutritional needs
should be met. That is on every level of the nutritional
categories, which is protein, carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins,
minerals, essential fats and trace elements. Don't forget water.
Without it our bodies cannot function properly.
To make sure that you achieve nutritional balance, a great food

Don’t count the calories, but reduce it. In the above paragraphs
about high nutrition, we already mentioned low calories. Fresh
and natural food’s calories are mostly low. In comparison to
refined food, it’s very low. What we try to achieve is to eat
less calories than we need. Then the body will start to burn the
stored energy, which is the unwanted fat.
There is even some food that is called negative calorie foods.
The meaning of negative calories is that the body uses more
energy to digest these foods than these foods provide. To find a
list of negative calorie foods, just search on the internet. It
is not really proven that these foods use more energy that it
provides, but still it’s very low in calories.
And naturally, reduce your intake of unhealthy food. That is
junk food, pre-packed food, high in sugar drinks and seasoning,
bad fats, etc. My personal rule is to cheat once a week. I
normally eat these very unhealthy foods on Friday evenings. The
rest of the week, I do my best to stay with the more natural
foodstuff.
